    Gig Venues

Generally, successful bands are run as a business and in order for businesses to grow, one needs to ensure that not only that the right products are offered but that one is expanding reach to an increasing number of customers.

This is something I've been thinking a lot about lately, as far as where do you take a band when there might be saturating the markets that you are in. My son's band has done pretty well in the retirement home space, which easily translated into the library space because most people who attend adult programs in libraries are seniors. Same thing holds true to senior centres. Museums and historical societies have also been fairly interested because the music we play can easily be classified into distinct time periods.

Yet this in itself is really not enough to keep growing, we need to continually looks for new types of places to play at. We've tried our hand at music festivals, town events with some success but it has not been a blockbuster. I attempted contacting VFW's and Elks lodges, neither of which has born any fruit. I could get the band booked into nightclubs/ performance venues but this is risky because in order to keep band members highly engaged you need to guarantee they will get something from a show. Also moving to nightclubs transfers the onus of publicity on me, forcing me to ask friends and family to buy tickets, which will become quickly unwelcome.

Question is, where to go now? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Well for starters- don't do pay to play

But I think you already know that

It might be time I dust off the VFW list and start calling around
