Some of the young uno made jokes like that--but most of us were in between young & old.

He grudgingly said something about only bringing a five piece kit, and I agreed (privately wondering why you'd ever need more). Anyway, we're all agreed in general...we're going to play classic rock, only gig once in a while, and just have fun with it once a week or so. Probably getting started the first weekend in December.
We work with a drummer who sometimes shows up with only a bass, a tom and a snare plus 2 cymbals, temple blocks and a cow bell. When he first showed up I was like "what the heck, no high hat?" But when you hear this guy play you wouldn't even realize that he's only playing "half of a set'

Keith Moon rarely used his high hat--and sometimes you don't see one watching him drum.
Ian Paice on the other hand uses his very well-and it's part of his signature sound.

    Then there's Max Roach-

Getting a strange feeling about things. Called last night to find out when the practice was going to happen this weekend. The lead player now says he wants to get together with just me on Friday night, and no rehearsal scheduled. This is giving me kind of a strange vibe about things.

The rehearsal with the guitar player happened tonight and was only so-so. We played for a couple of hours. He had borrowed a cube for me to use....It turned out to be a Gallien Krueger MB150E, a compact 150 watt combo with one 12" speaker. When I looked at it, I assumed it was a little bedroom practice amp, but it actually sounded not bad. Not sure if anything's ever going to develop out of this, but it was fun to play with someone else again.

I just found out about an online site called Band Mix. It's a way to shop for musicians or bands, and to advertise if looking for a gig. There seem to be more musicians around here than I would have thought.

Good idea- we have musicians giving us cards all the time asking if we'd bring them on as subs, but I keep personnel in our band managed very carefully
