    That would be cool.

it would but it is all dollars and cents in the end.

For example if you have a gig at $100 a man and bring in another guy the band might drop to $75 a man. One has to be really careful in balancing this out to keep the existing players happy.

Certainly--and I sometimes wonder about things like that when I see 7, 8, 9 or more men bands...

Believe me I am not kidding, when I tell you I have seen bands so large they were priced out of the market and collapsed under their own weight.

A few years ago I had a 7-piece band, with my then 16-year-old son on bass when we played venues he could play.
    (Casinos needed 21-year old players.)
We were competing with 4 and 5 piece bands.
I bought a relic'd guitar because I liked the way it sounded. Then I refinished it because I didn't like the way it looked.

even in our church, a bassist is so rare, we are having a hard time finding more bassists to fill up other teams.. we play four services in one sunday, there's the AM team and the PM team.. and if not always, the bassist plays all day, with two different sets of songs.

I can play bass, but I lead my own team on guitars. Gotta respect them bassists!

We have 3 that take turns based on ability...
Sometimes we don't have a bass player.

we have three as well! but we have 5 teams! LOL

I dont know if I can ever do without a bass player. I could do a trio, guitar-bass-drums.. I've been doing that since I started playing in a band and pretty much got used to the dynamics of being in a trio.. but that usually needs a capable bass player. I've been wanting to try out a duo though. just drums and guitar, like the what Jack white did in White stripes and the Black Keys.

    but I love bassists!
