    A possibly foolish Purchase?

    Sometimes,
it seems things happen in themes...

After seeing the great Space Oddity Video SC posted,
I somehow found myself watching a Star Trek episode i'd never seen...

Couldn't sleep, and was poring through ebay telecaster listings...and stumbled onto this just as it was ending......

    - now I know that these necks are usually not the best quality, but i couldn't resist.
I bid 60 bucks on it and won it for 56.
sigh, lol. now I have to look for a tele body that will match it, if it is indeed playable..it appears to be CnC, and is unfinished maple.

any body color/style sugestions would be most welcome...

Beautiful neck. I wonder if the frets are good, or crap. If they aren't anything special, I would refret it. Good frets can turn a "not-so-great" neck into a nice player.

Then get Shatner, Nimoy or Takei to sign it.
I bought a relic'd guitar because I liked the way it sounded. Then I refinished it because I didn't like the way it looked.

I was as impressed with this line as I was with the pretty neck.

    not really surprising, actually.

I'm wondering if a black body,
or a abalone-colored dye job on a pretty flamey maple body would look good.
    always loved abalone.

    any suggestions would be awesome.

That neck may be "the final frontier". It's kind of cool and I can understand why you were attracted to it. I wonder if the graphics are a vinyl applique or something else.

I've looked from time to time at an eBay seller, I think from Vietnam, who sells guitar components...bodies, and necks.....that have very intricate inlay work. I've suspected that he was probably buying cheapo necks and doing the cosmetic upgrades, but they look so nice that I've been tempted.

Let us know how this works our for you, FC. I'd kinda like to know the seller's eBay name so I could watch his future auctions.

I think they're pretty cool. It could spark an interesting build that you wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

I've looked at those quite a few times. I am sure curious to how it plays. The inlay work is very cool. I'm thinkin' a dark colored body with a shell like pickguard. It's nice having another mad scientist in the group.

I'm thinking a body that's a blue to match the neck up by the nut. And the headstock the same blue.

I like this idea! At the risk of appearing biased, I'm thinking a nice Agave blue would pick up those blue tones in the abalone nicely.

On second thought, it's a crappy idea and you should get rid of that neck as soon as possible. Send it up the coast my way - I'll give it a good home...
