    Project DarkHorse.

Well guys I seemed to have finished all my projects I had on the go. So I put some thought into what I was gonna do next. Now when I say that it I had planned on picking up a flying V body from GFS & use my Larravee neck to build something but when I got around to ordering it guess what? Sold out! So I was sitting there bummed out that that wasn't gonna happen thinking well what am I gonna do now? I look across the room at the rack of guitars & focus on my Lipstick tube Strat. The guitar played really well but the body was pretty lowsy. I never have been happy with its patched up appearance since I have honed my skills to a point that my recent builds have been brought up to a better standard. So I slept on it went to work in the morning & thought on it through the day came home & tore the Lipstick Strat apart. This is what I come up with. The neck was given to me from my good buddy Paul who is currently releasing his first big album with his band DarkHorse. So I am going to name this project after his band. The neck is 100% rosewood & very nice to play. It was made in a Luthier school on Vancouver Island. It has a set of locking tuners & Graphtech string retainers & nut. I have ordered a pine Tele body from my guy Real in Quebec that will be here any day now. That will be dyed to compliment the neck. This will have a 3 saddle bridge & be an Esquire project. All the hardware is on its way & it's all black. Project DarkHorse has began. Stay tuned I will post as I build.

It sounds like an interesting project, and I always enjoy your build threads. How do you think the heavier rosewood neck and lightweight pine body will work out for balance?

The neck isn't really much heavier then the maple neck I have for another project. It was on a mahogany body before that was pretty light & I. had no issues with balance. I have so many ash body guitars I just wanted to build one out of something different. Pine has been popular lately so I thought I'd give it a shot. It will be nice to not have to deal with the deep grain for a change.

Balance is affected by so many things--not just the weight--but the distribution of the weight is important--and I've found the size & shape of the guitarist can affect the balance as well.

Look what arrived today guys! My nice new pine Tele body neck pickup delete. I got a bunch of time during the Christmas break to get some stuff done on it. I will belly cut the back some & give it a slight arm contour.

That's sure a pretty body, KC. The contouring you're doing is lookin' good.
