    Cure for boredom

I've been pacing the floor these days after a lay off from work. All the time in the world but not much for play money. My brother gave me some Mahogany planks when he was over visiting last weekend & I was thinking of making a cigar box guitar which I probably will soon. I got an idea to make a Lap steel. I have my old 40's lapper to get some measurements from. For scale & things. I don't have a band saw just a scroll. The idea was to cut close to the line then file the rest in by hand. A lot of the cutting was just to much for the scroll saw & it had to be done by hand as well. You sure learn to appreciate power tools when you have to do things the old fashion way. I have done a lot of file work in the last couple days. There is a big pile of sawdust on my sundeck. Who knows how it's gonna turn out. Lol! So far so good.

Are you going to build the cigar box too?

Actually sounds like fun & work--looks like nice wood

    Enjoy & keep sharing.

Yes a cigar box guitar is something that I will build as well I have some stuff put aside for 2 of those. I also have enough wood to make 1 more lap steel. This one I am gonna give to my dad. He just doesn't know that yet.

Sorry--what I meant was--the cigar box for the body--will you build that as well--not just use an existing cigar box.
Sorry, silly question that didn't work right or as intended.

Great idea for a project. I look forward to watching it develop.

Um, that's a pretty green backyard there, for January.
I bought a relic'd guitar because I liked the way it sounded. Then I refinished it because I didn't like the way it looked.

Crude but effective. I've hogged out the pickup & control cavity plus channeled out for all the wiring. I will have at least pull wires in those channels when I glue the 1/2s together just encase the channels fill with glue. This will get a single humbucker. I have a couple to choose from kicking around & I will go with a simple single volume control with no tone just to keep things real compact.

Cool project KC. I know what it's like to be laid off... It's good to keep busy with something.

Didn't you know? The best part of Canadian Winter is watching it from Vancouver (or it's suburbs)

Yeah, they whine about how cold it is when it gets to -5 celsius (23 Fahrenheit)
