    Project Birch Box

Hey all. Today I picked up this old Harmony 1215 for a whopping $45. This old dog need's a lot of work. Body damage where some asshat sat on it. & It needs a neck reset in a huge way. The cool thing about one of these is they made thousands of em' so they don't go for big money. So I can do whatever I want to it & I don't have to feel guilty about lowering it's value.. I'm going to fully rebuild this guitar from the ground up & build a tasteful custom out of it. My good buddy Simon the Harmony king will be helping me out as a coach through this & am very fortunate to have all access to his shop to do the tough stuff at. Stay tuned guys it's gonna be a long project.

I think things you described already lowered the value.
A lot of people would have charged a lot more for this as it is "Vintage"
So you got a great deal.

Sounds like a fun project--I'm reserving a front row seat to follow along.

This morning I grabbed this old relic & headed into the city to visit my buddy Simon. I got it strapped into the rack. Time to get the neck off. 1st you release the board extension into the body area. The block is heated to 400 degrees & used to soften up the glue using small putty knives you seperate it from the body. I am replacing this horrible fretboard so I don't care what happens to it. Removing a fret just behind the dovetail joint aiming for a void behind the joint. Then with this handy dandy modified capachino machine I pump steam into the void testing prying & wiggling the neck until it slowly releases. It come out pretty clean I will have to Dr up the dovetail but nothing serious. Did a little steam work on the body & it was time to go home. All in all it was a productive day. I'm gonna go back next Sunday.

Of all yours, KC this is the project that interests me most. The neck reset is particularly cool- and how useful to learn!
