I understand all you said SC. I'm extremely particular about my Christmas music. I dislike almost all contemporary Christmas carols and contemporary versions of classics. I probably don't get quite of sick of Christmas music as quickly because my collection is so extensive, encompassing both German and American Christmas, plus I have a lot of older instrumental CD's from orchestra leaders like Percy Faith, Andre Costellanitz, Henry Mancini, etc.

And BTW if Bruce Springsteen's Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town comes on the radio, I turn if off immediately.

I do have classical music & hymns that are often considered Christmas songs on my phone & I listen to them year round- because they have musical merit & beautiful melodies

Yes, there are many classical pieces that are associated with Christmas that have nothing to do with Christmas.

Such as Handel's best known work
    Messiah
People associate the Hallelujah Chorus with Christmas
But it is about The Second Coming

But other parts of Messiah are more connected to Christmas
So at least part of it is

Ironically even the old standard Jingle Bells was not intended to be a Christmas song- it was written for Thanksgiving

& a different thing, but this made think of it
What does Jingle Bell Rock have to with Christmas other than maybe the imagery
