    Pete Townshend - Magic Bus

    Hi,

    Can you guys point me in the right direction as to what pickups should I be looking at to get close to this;

    I know there's a lot of factors, pete townshend fingers, amp, vintage guitar mojo, etc. But none of that would be considered, i just want to get in that ballpark of tone.

    Its been 4-5 years since I built this tele. it currently has classic 60's in it. It sounds great, but I want to mod this and get a new tone out of it and give it a fresh look (going to order a 1-ply black or gray pickguard).

    Is it doable on a thinline?

    Well he says it's a 52 Tele--but who knows if the pickups are stock?

    Of cousre we have a member here--mreilander- who makes & sells pickups--including ones for Teles...
    I'm sure he could let you know if any of his will get you in the ballpark.

    I've also heard of good things about Jason Lollar pickups--and he does have many Tele options--including what are called the 52 Neck & 52 bridge.

    I guess nothing should be ruled out as to what is doable but from my experience thinlines sound quite different to regular teles. It might be cheaper/easier to just get a solid body tele?

    Getting a solid body tele is already on the way! but as of the moment, I'm growing bored of my thinline sonically, so I kind of want something new and close to Pete's ballpark. and when I get a solid body, it wont be a 50's, It'll be a 60's type with rosewood board, so it will be very different.

    But if you're looking for ballpark it could still work...

    The ballpark might be as close as you get. Look at the countless discussions that go on in forums that all point back to "The tone is in the fingers".

    That was something Blues acknowledged from the start.

    Maybe, but a chambered instrument like a Thinline is really quite fundamentally different from the solid slab that a normal Tele is.

    But heck, why not try it?

    Why not indeed.
    The Tele Thinline is more of a half & half between a semi hollow & a solidbody.
    or maybe more like a chambered guitar--which really is how I see it.
