Wish You Were Here - Acoustic

I did lead and bass, a coworker did the 12 string parts and the husband of a coworker did the vocals. I tried to get Gilmore's tone on the live acoustic version he did and just miced my Epiphone Casino. https://youtu.be/fX69AP4T8H0
I don't play guitar because I'm good at it, I play because it's fun!!

Cool--the different sound to vocals gives it a different feel from the original--and I almost always prefer a cover that sounds at least a little different

Isn't that what artistry is all about- making it your own?

I heard him sing in some other videos and liked how he sounded but I thought he would try to sound more "Gilmoresque". He just did it his way and I like how it turned out.

Well yeah--it should be--that's why I prefer it...
But I keep running into people who want to do it exactly like the studio recording--even though many bands don't do their own songs live exactly as it sounded in the studio...

It would be very hard to do anything live exactly like in the studio

I have seen bands do it too closely--but I am also referring to arrangement, tempo, solos, etc.
Some people do take that way too seriously

My opinion is there should be SOME interpretation of a song if you are going to cover it.

That's what I have been saying--so I see we are in agreement--and the recording estan posted certainly qualifies (Which you also stated)
