I've been a pilgrim on this earth, since the day of my birth, I'm a long way from my home.

That's what's kept me away from concerts for years.

I also rarely attend concerts unless we are playing them for several reasons. Rock concerts are simply too loud.

Jazz concerts on the other hand are generally not too loud, but as a jazz musician myself it is very difficult to really enjoy them because little mistakes jump out glaringly at me- the same holds true for my son but he is even more sensitive to it. In one concert I remember he looked at me and simply said "flat" when the clarinet was soloing and then every poor note choice he just looked at me, saying nothing. You even hear it on some recordings and you think things like "this solo is great but he shouldn't have taken a breath in the middle of that phrase". Ironically when it is too perfect and orchestrated it also bothers me as being sterile.

I guess we can count this as a little thing I hate as it is the curse of many jazz musicians that you stop enjoying actually listening to music when you are not playing it.

I will take real mistakes over autotune any day.
