    Ah that stinks- I'd hoped you could get a little on top of that pension benefit.

    But does that mean that you are again paying into the pension system, thus deferring your benefit and raising your future payouts?

    No, I still get basic Old Age Pension (570.00) but if I take wages, I can't get the Guaranteed Income Supplement which is worth about 600.00/month. I've elected not to go on payroll because it doesn't give me any additional income, so I'm not accruing bigger pension benefits, but also not paying EI premiums or income tax.

    Ah that stinks, but as you pointed it out isn't about the money but more about keeping busy.

    My assumption is that there will be no public retirement pension for me, so my projected need is pretty high

    Living with that expectation forces you to put more into private accounts earlier. My 2 teenagers both have youth retirement accounts with over $10,000 in them.
