    No surprise--although I hadn't heard all of them before--but then I never stopped to think about why a sea Shanty is called that--corrupted French--makes sense.

    I actually thought the correct spelling was sea "chantey", which would make even more sense

    I saw it as "Shanty" in books as a kid--if it had been spelled with a "C" I may have picked up on the french word reference.

    I am certainly nowhere fluent in it--but growing up with French & English on all your food packaging I've picked up a bit--and I took a bit in school.
    So Shanty almost sounds like fake French...
