    Noisy loop

I was putting up with noise from my pedal board for quite a while but recently grew tired of it and thought I'd start troubleshooting the problem. Most simple check was to reduce the number of cables so I took out the preamp out>pedal board>power amp in loop and went from guitar>pedal board>amp input and that stopped the noise. Is this a circuit issue or I was I using it for a purpose it wasn't intended to be used for?
I ran with scissors this morning. I never felt so free.

    A couple of thoughts......

It's possible that there's an impedance mismatch by putting the pedalboard into the effects loop and that's creating noise.
Maybe the pedal board is driving the power amp with too much or too little signal.
Sometimes ground loops become an issue when extra gear is injected into that signal path.
