    I see the smilies--but here's my reply:
Nope, a good amp is a good amp--period.
There are good tube amps and bad tube amps
Good solid state amps and bad ones.

You're not going to tell me BB King and Albert King played bad amps now?

That's cool, whatever works for you. I have never cared for SS amps.

As far as B.B. and Albert's tone, I definitely 'prefer' the older stuff (when they still used tubes) and I'm not saying I don't like there modern stuff (it's just more polished).

I'm sticking with ss and tube--and digital--whatever sounds good to me--and there are good examples of each.

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with the tube amp but I still appreciate the headphone output and reverb on the Vox Pathfinder.

When I used to use reverb on fenders I only had it on a little bit, maybe 3 on the dial.
When I started using Tweeds I found that they had so much tone & harmonic content & sustain that I didn't miss the 'verb.
In the early 60's there began a demand for louder fender amps.
When Leo tightened up the cabinets & dropped the floating baffleboard & upped the voltages the amps lost midrange, harmonics and sustain.
He started putting reverb in the amps to get a little sustain between the notes.

I found that by replacing the 12AX7 with a 12AY7 that I like the sound of my amp a lot more than before. I love the sound of the Ultra channel with a little less gain better and as a result I don't need the Joyo pedal anymore or reverb for that matter.

Now I'm curious as to what the 12AY7 would sound like in conjunction with a 5751.

I've had the same experience.....replacing the 12AX7 in V2 of my Twin Reverb with a 12AY7. Aside from the difference in gain, I would have to use phrases like "smoother" and "more refined". I tried the other members of the 12A-- family...other than 12AT7 which I've been told is quite unsuitable in the application, but the 12AY7 seemed to offer the best of both worlds....good performance sonically and adequate gain, with no abnormal hiss or noise (which I got from the 12AU7). I've never tried a 5751, although I'd like to. The one that fascinates me though is the 7025. They're tough to find and expensive, but everything I've read tells me that it's the Cadillac of preamp tubes in a Fender amp.
